Running

New Motto : "Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever."
I realize it is so strange for me to even talk about running but I must say I'm starting to love it. I have NEVER been a runner. I tried track in junior high and it was hopeless. My track coach was a bit of a loser and saw nothing special in me. I don't think I got 5 minutes of her time the entire season. She'd just have me "go run half a mile," "go run 200 meters," "let's try hurdles," etc, etc. The list goes on. I never found what I was good at and the best I ever did in a race was 3rd. Not to mention, other kids said I looked "funny" when I ran.

So, now I'm an adult and I don't care if I look funny while I run. I've finished the biggest challenge in my life to this point (nursing school, duh?) and need a new one. So, why not running? Gives me something to work for and there is the great benefit of getting fit and looking good in clothes, right?

Last night I ran at 8:30 pm since I worked the night before and had slept through the day. It was so euphoric. The sound of music in my ears, cool breeze on my face, and a beautiful pink sunset off in the horizon. It was so nice I just kept running. I think it's the first time in my life I thought, "I get it now." I can see how people get addicted to this thing called running. I'm crossing my fingers that I can get addicted myself.

So . . . new goal in life. Running. Start with a 5k, then 10k, then 1/2 marathon. I think the goal may stop there. We'll see how the knees hold out. :)

Do you have a plan on how to start running and train for the races? I would be interested to know where to start a venture like that! Good luck!

Hey Sammie - Alright, I got my schedule from http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/index.shtml. They have good training schedules. I'm just starting with the couch-to-5k schedule. The first two weeks were a little too easy, so I am starting on week 3. You should try it. If I can do it, anyone can!

It's a great goal and motto Wendy. You can do whatever it is you set your mind to! Go Wendy Go!!!

Awesome! That is a great set of goals. I find running releases stress and gives me back more energy that it takes.
